Off the Record
There's no way a rock star would write a song about Jane marlow - she isn't the type to wear garter belts or rhinestone thongs. She's a true-blue good girl: a plain, predictable, perfectly responsible estates attorney. But then Jane's brother discovers that former pop sensation Teddy Rock is actually their childhood neighbor Theodore Brockford...and that his breakout hit thirteen years earlier wsan't just a catchy tune that took the charts by storm - it's a song about Jane.
When Teddy Rock's reluctant muse is forced into the public spotlight, lawerly Jane has a chance to live like a rock star - but is she ready for the changes it brings? And even if she's willing to take the risk, is she willing to face the music?

“The cleverly
unconventional plot …is fun, and O’Connell unveils the transformation with
impressive skill and timing.”

Because OFF THE RECORD is all about an unwilling musical muse, I thought I'd have a few of my chick lit friends/authors answer the following questions instead of the usual book description. It’s more fun, and you can still read about the book at Amazon or Barnes & Noble.
Q: What song would you
love to find out was written about you?
Q: If you were going to be the inspiration for a song, what would its title
be?
A: "Save A Prayer"
by Duran Duran.
When I was in junior high, in fact, I believe I once got carried away and
claimed that the song was written for me. Because grown international pop stars
often penned famous ballads for thirteen year olds in suburban New Jersey...
Obviously, this claim was met with widespread derision by all the other girls
who knew it was about them.
A: "Your Neuroses Are Charming, Not At All Alarming."
Megan Crane,
Author of ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE and EVERYONE ELSE’S GIRL

A: “Something So
Strong” (Crowded House)
A: "I Love You so Much I'll Do the Dishes" aka "You Make Me Feel Like
Dusting" (lyrics, music and chores by my husband).
Cara Lockwood,
Author of I DO, BUT I DON’T, PINK SLIP PARTY, and DIXIELAND SUSHI

A: I can only think
of the two songs I wouldn’t want to be written about me:
"Kiss From A Rose" by Seal. A mean boyfriend once told me that every time he
heard Seal sing, "The more I get of you, the stranger it feels, yeah," he
thought: that's how I feel about Melissa. We broke up a minute later.
"Sweet Melissa" by The Allman Brothers. Any girl named Melissa who went to sleep-away camp with hippie counselors in the 70s never wants to hear this song again.

Author of SEE JANE DATE, THE SOLOMON SISTERS WISE UP, and WHOSE WEDDING
IS IT ANYWAY?

A: I’m about the
least musically-oriented person on the planet, but I’m going to go with George
Strait’s “The Chair,” simply because I think it’s an incredibly romantic song.
A: Considering how much I have a tendency to angst, I think I have to
pick one that’s already been done: “Don’t Worry. Be Happy” (or Monty Python’s
“Always Look On The Bright Side of Life”)
Julie Kenner,
author, THE GIVENCY CODE and CARPE DEMON
